About the Artist

My name is Tony Eaton and I am a Brooklyn based artist and surfer. I have been making art and surfing for well over twenty five years.

My work is influenced by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Jim Dine, Julian Schnable, Frank Stella, Wolfgang Bloch, Donald Baechler and many others.

With my Broken Board series I have combined my passion for art, surfing, boardsports and ocean environmentalism and protection. The experiences I had growing up in the 1980's skateboarding and surfing in Virgina Beach, Maryland and Seaside Heights, New Jersey strongly influenced and shaped my life.

Eventually surfing lead me to Hawai'i where I lived for 4 years. I surfed mainly on the West Side of O'ahu as well as the infamous North Shore at spots such as Pipeline, Backdoor and Off the Wall. My travels have taken me around the world to places like Tahiti, Bali, California, Mexico, Hawai'i, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Barbados, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida.

In 1995 I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Art with a focus in Painting and Printmaking and a minor in Sculpture and Art History.

In 2016 I stepped up my involvement with the Surfrider NYC Chapter as the new Chair of the Membership Committee.
